Our English translations have great difficulty adequately translating the Bible because Hebrew and Greek are both very rich languages. Their word meanings are complex and yet specific at the same time. Perhaps the most dramatic example occurs in John's Gospel. John was standing at the foot of the cross beside the Lord's devastated mother Mary in the darkness at around 3:00 p.m. Jesus was close to death at that point. But first, He cried out one word, "Tetelestai!"
